Teacher Spotlight: Nyla Ruccia. Mrs. Ruccia has taught 5th grade at Galatia Schools for 3 years. She has also served as a Cheerleading Coach.
Mrs. Ruccia said her favorite part about working at Galatia Schools is: "I have worked at several different companies and school districts in my career and none have been as welcoming and rewarding as Galatia School District. My students are the bright spot in my day, especially when they have "lightbulb" moments in learning. My coworkers and admin are uplifting, positive, and encouraging and the support we receive is incredible."
Mrs. Ruccia's coworkers had this to say: " She’s always thinking of ways to incorporate “out of the box” ideas for her students and they love it! She has been a great leader on the SEL team and is always so friendly."
We asked her some interesting questions:
Question: What was the most recent book you read?
Response: You can usually find me reading 2-3 books at one time. I like to listen to audio books in my car and I really enjoy discussing with other people what they are reading and getting recommendations for my TBR (to be read) pile. Currently, I am reading Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas (audiobook), and The Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.
Question: Where on earth are you hoping to travel next?
Response: I believe the world is too big and exciting to visit the same places over and over. We plan on visiting my mother in law's home in Taranto, Italy this summer. After that, my travel list is pretty extensive, but we have discussed visiting Iceland later this year.
Thank you Mrs. Ruccia for all your hard work!

I remember all those times our class got into huge fights. The best time was probably when we couldn't decide on the class corner theme, but we still came together and won! We honestly fight like siblings. It's like one big family!

I plan to attend SIU and major in Accounting.
Advice for future Seniors.
Don't be so hard on yourself. You are learning and growing into your own person. Have fun and don't worry too much! Time goes by too fast to worry.
