Galatia Students, Parents, and Community: Galatia School District has been discussing many options for graduation during this closure. As we have been telling you, guidance from the state is updated daily and therefore things can change. At this time, no in-person or drive-through graduation ceremony is allowed via directions from the Illinois State Board of Education. We have decided to postpone the original graduation date of May 16th, to a date in June (TBA) in hopes that an in-person graduation ceremony can be held at that time. IF we are not able to hold an in-person graduation at that time, we will be looking into a digital format for graduation. We are very sorry to not be able to give you finalized plans yet. This issue is very important to all of us and we will do everything in our power to make it happen. As of right now, the school is working on a Scholarship Banquet video to release electronically mid-late May. Thank you.

As many of you know we lost one of our own, Tyler Anderson, last night in a car accident. Tyler was a junior at Galatia High School. He was an active member of FFA and Trapcats. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time. This news comes as a huge shock to everyone. Galatia School District wants to make sure to provide our students with resources as they are grieving this loss. First, there will be counselors available by phone through WOVSED. To reach one of these counselors, any student can call 618-8 41-8282 Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:00AM-3:30 PM. If you need to reach a counselor after hours, call Saline County dispatch at 618-252-8661, and tell them you need to talk to a counselor. Second, Illinois has set up a hotline during this COVID-19 pandemic called Call 4 Calm. Students can text the word “TALK” to 552020 and a counselor will call them. Lastly, Galatia staff understands that many students prefer to talk to someone they know and trust during times like these. Please reach out to a trusted staff member if you need to talk.

Galatia high school students and parents: All fourth quarter assignments will be graded as Pass/Incomplete and therefore, fourth quarter grades will also be reported as Pass/Incomplete. Each student’s third quarter letter grade and fourth quarter Pass/Incomplete will be averaged together for a second semester grade of Pass/Incomplete. It is incredibly important for high school students to resolve any Incomplete grades before the end of this school year. High school students will be REQUIRED to receive a Pass to gain credit for their courses.
