Teacher Spotlight: Christan Fry. Mrs. Fry has worked in education for 16 years. 13 of those years have been as a high school science teacher at Galatia High School. She also serves as Student Council Sponsor and and Freshmen Class Sponsor.
Mrs. Fry had this to say about working at Galatia Schools: "The small school atmosphere allows you to have relationships with students and co-workers that might not happen in a bigger school. I have been able to get to know teachers outside of a science department, and work closely with them. I love the community and family feel we have here at Galatia."
Mrs. Fry's coworkers had this to say: "Mrs. Fry is a well-liked figure within this school amongst students and staff. I’ve never seen a teacher that has more passion for their content or the community. Her excitement is infectious and I constantly hear about the fun that students have in her class."
We asked her some interesting questions:
Question: What is something unique about you (a fun fact) that few people are aware of?
Response: I worked for Dr. Teal at the vet office and was driven up here by Dr. Teal when the school needed a science teacher. I worked here for the last month of school, and I'm still here!
Question: What was the first concert you ever attended?
Response: My first concert was New Kids on the Block when I was in 3rd grade! I rocked out the shirt, jean jacket, and the many buttons of New Kids all over the jacket.
Thank you Mrs. Fry for all your hard work!

Staff Spotlight: Evelyn Potts. Evelyn has worked in education for 30 years. 15 of those years she has been at Galatia Schools serving as District Bookkeeper/Treasurer/Board Secretary and now Payroll Clerk.

Evelyn's coworkers had this to say: "Galatia CUSD is fortunate to have Evelyn Potts as the payroll clerk. Evelyn has many years worth of knowledge and is always willing to help employees."
We asked her some interesting questions:
Question: Where on earth are you hoping to travel next?
Response: I hope to travel to South Korea because that would mean my son and his wife would finally decide to have me a grandchild.
Question: One thing you would tell your 13-year-old self, what would it be?
Response: I would tell my 13 year old self to listen to my teachers more than I did and study harder even though I don't like biology.
Thank you Evelyn for all your hard work!

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on
three or more Essentials.
