Parents/guardians, the lockdown alarm was inadvertently activated this afternoon during dismissal. All staff and students did an excellent job following the lockdown protocol. Police and administration acted quickly to clear this as an accidental alarm. We apologize for the delay in dismissal but good job Bearcats on such a quick response.
Congratulations to the Galatia FFA Chapter on winning the Farmyard Follies at the DuQuoin State Fair! 31 Galatia FFA members competed in 8 different areas against 40 other schools to land 1st place overall. Great job team!

I'm sure you all have been watching the work going on at the baseball and softball fields. We are excited to announce that our lights are now functional at both fields! We will be turning the lights on this evening from about 7:30-10:00 for anyone that would like to drive by for a preview.
We will then have a formal lighting ceremony at the fields at a later date this fall.

There will be a player/parent meeting for high school volleyball on August 9th from 5:00-7:00 at the high school. At least one parent/guardian must attend. Please park by the softball field and enter into the side gym doors due to ongoing construction.
6th-12th Grade Parents/Guardians,
As the school year is quickly approaching, we want to make you aware that the school recently revised the cell phone policy. Significant amounts of research show that cell phone use during the school day is a disruption to learning. Below is the policy in full. Each teacher will have a cell phone storage unit in their classroom. Students will place their phone in the assigned slot when they walk into each class and retrieve their phone as they leave each class. This policy change will help ensure that all students will be hands-on and minds-on during instruction. We appreciate your help in communicating this information with your child and your support of this at home. Thank you.
Cell Phone Policy
Personal cell phones, electronic watches , or other electronic communication devices are to be off and placed in the cell phone storage units in each classroom, with the exception of before school and at lunch.. This exception is a privilege and this privilege can be taken away if the administration chooses to do so. Any student found to be in violation of this policy is subject to the following disciplinary action:
1st Offense – Student will receive a lunch detention. The students’ phone will be confiscated and will be kept in the office until after school hours.
2nd Offense – Student will receive an after school detention. The students’ phone will be confiscated and will be kept in the office until after school hours.
3rd Offense – Student will receive an after school detention. The student’s phone will be confiscated and will be kept in the office until a parent can come pick up the phone.
4th+ Offense – Student will receive an in-school suspension. The student’s phone will be confiscated and will be kept in the office until a parent can come pick up the phone.
Parents will be notified of any cell phone violations through Teacherease. Additional violations of the cell phone policy may result in a multiple day suspension from school for Gross disobedience and misconduct or result in the student removed to an alternative educational setting.
