Ms. Tawmi says, "Galatia schools really are the best! I grew up in Galatia and graduated from Galatia High School. Its so fun seeing the kids of my classmates now in school. I love getting to know each one. Galatia has amazing students and I am honored to get to be a part of it everyday."
JH/HS staff say, "Ms. Tawmi always answers every question, no matter how silly, with patience and a smile" and "Ms. Tawmi is the first impression that people have when walking into our building. Her bright and caring personality reflects wonderfully on this school district and lets students and adults alike feel welcome here. "
We asked Ms. Tawmi a couple interesting questions:
Question: What is your favorite pastime?
Response: My favorite pastime is shopping, eating out, or vacationing with my mom and my boys.
Question: What would you eat if you had to eat only one meal every day for the rest of your life?
Response: If I had to eat only one meal every day for the rest of my life, I believe it would be tacos or roast, potatoes and carrots.
Thank you Ms. Tawmi for all the hard work you do!

Employment Opportunity

Congratulations to the Junior Bearcats Baseball team with their victory over Z/R tonight 14-9! ⚾️ Way to go, boys!

Parents/Guardians, unfortunately we had an incredibly short resignation notice from a bus driver on Friday. We were able to get a sub driver for today only to run the route. We have worked through the weekend and today to reroute our transportation assignments to get all kids on a bus. Students on Angie's bus will now be on Sabrina's bus. Any other student who is placed with a different driver has already been contacted. Over the next couple of days please be patient with us. Bus pick up and drop off times will vary and routes will be longer starting tomorrow (Tuesday). Buses will also be at full capacity. We are working on alternative solutions to this as well. Thank you.

Monday, August 29th is picture day for Junior High and High School students. Even if you are not interested in making a purchase we ask your child to go through the line for a yearbook photo. Forms are on our website and FB page.

Congratulations going out to the Lady Bearcats Volleyball team! Both the JV and Varsity teams won their sets tonight versus Pope County! Way to go, ladies! 🏐

Galatia CUSD #1 Rescheduled Board Meeting for August will be Monday August 29th at 7:00 p.m.

For our first Teacher Spotlight, we have Cheryl Disney-Walrack. Mrs. Disney-Walrack has been in education for 30 years serving in different roles as K-12 Art Teacher, 7-12 Business Teacher, and District Technology Coordinator.
Mrs. Disney-Walrack could not name just one thing she loves about working in Galatia Schools: "I love the students and staff at Galatia Schools. I love the size of our school. It is nice to actually get to know most of the students! I have taught so long that I am teaching former student's children. The community is such a huge supporter of our schools and as you know it takes a village to raise these kiddos! I actually went to school in Galatia starting in Kindergarten and graduating in the same high school gym in 1985. When I started teaching I worked with my former teachers and now I am working with some of my former students. I've watched Galatia students support each other even when it isn't always easy. I've watched the community support groups that were in need. I just love this place!!! I will always be a Bearcat!"
A high school teacher said this about Mrs. Disney-Walrack, "She is fiercely loyal and will always go above and beyond to help you out in a time of need. She has a genuine love for our students and school and I couldn't ask for a better coworker."
We asked Mrs. Disney-Walrack a couple interesting questions:
Question: Which do you prefer: flying automobiles, robot housekeepers, or lunar cities?
Response: I would love to have a robot housekeeper! Obviously so I wouldn't have to do all the cleaning. Flying automobiles, well there are so many that can't drive an automobile well, so I sure wouldn't want to see them flying!
Question: Would you rather be a teeny-tiny elephant or a colossal hamster?
Response: I would rather be a teeny-tiny elephant because I just think about what I could do with my trunks! Even though I'd be small I'd still be sucking up water in my trunk all the time and squirting water on people . It would be like having your own built in water gun. I also think elephant tails are so cute compared to their trunks!
Thank you Mrs. Disney-Walrack for all the hard work you do!

Galatia Schools want to recognize our awesome staff and teachers. This year we will be posting Staff Spotlights and Teacher Spotlights frequently to our Facebook and Livefeed pages. We want to use this opportunity to share with the community the positive impact these employees are making in our schools and to let you get to know them a little better.
For our first Staff Spotlight, we have Starla Pigg. Ms. Starla has been the Food Service Director for six years. Her favorite part of the job is seeing the kiddos everyday and talking to them. She said "You never know what they are going to say!" A grade school teacher used this quote to describe Starla: "Day after day, ordinary people become heroes through extraordinary and selfless actions to help their neighbors. "-Sylvia Mathews Burwell
We asked Ms. Starla a couple interesting questions:
Question: Could you imagine yourself doing something else instead of what you do now?
Response: I can't imagine doing anything else than what I'm doing now. If I could I would do it for free, lol.
Question: One thing you would tell your 13-year-old self, what would it be?
Response: At 13 I would tell myself to get out there and live your best life and not be afraid to try new things.
Thank you Ms. Starla for all the hard work you do!
