Teacher Spotlight: Nyla Ruccia. Mrs. Ruccia has taught 5th grade at Galatia Schools for 3 years. She has also served as a Cheerleading Coach. Mrs. Ruccia said her favorite part about working at Galatia Schools is: "I have worked at several different companies and school districts in my career and none have been as welcoming and rewarding as Galatia School District. My students are the bright spot in my day, especially when they have "lightbulb" moments in learning. My coworkers and admin are uplifting, positive, and encouraging and the support we receive is incredible." Mrs. Ruccia's coworkers had this to say: " She’s always thinking of ways to incorporate “out of the box” ideas for her students and they love it! She has been a great leader on the SEL team and is always so friendly." We asked her some interesting questions: Question: What was the most recent book you read? Response: You can usually find me reading 2-3 books at one time. I like to listen to audio books in my car and I really enjoy discussing with other people what they are reading and getting recommendations for my TBR (to be read) pile. Currently, I am reading Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas (audiobook), and The Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Question: Where on earth are you hoping to travel next? Response: I believe the world is too big and exciting to visit the same places over and over. We plan on visiting my mother in law's home in Taranto, Italy this summer. After that, my travel list is pretty extensive, but we have discussed visiting Iceland later this year. Thank you Mrs. Ruccia for all your hard work!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Halle Morris Favorite memory from high school? I remember all those times our class got into huge fights. The best time was probably when we couldn't decide on the class corner theme, but we still came together and won! We honestly fight like siblings. It's like one big family! Plans after high school? I plan to attend SIU and major in Accounting. Advice for future Seniors. Don't be so hard on yourself. You are learning and growing into your own person. Have fun and don't worry too much! Time goes by too fast to worry.

He has served as High School Special Education Teacher, Junior Class Sponsor, Esports Coach, and Junior High Boys Basketball Assistant Coach. Mr. Neal said his favorite part about working at Galatia Schools is: "the people I get to see everyday. I enjoy coming into work everyday and seeing people who I enjoy working and talking to. There are some people who don't enjoy coming to work everyday, I am happy to say that I am not one of those people. " Mr. Neal's coworkers had this to say: " Mr. Neal has really come into his own over the past few years. I like seeing students greeting him in the hallway and the daily high fives and fist bumps that occur in between class periods. " We asked him some interesting questions: Question: What is something unique about you (a fun fact) that few people are aware of? Response: A fun fact that few people are aware of is that I use to sing in my high school's Jazz choir, I also acted in a few school plays as well. Question: What is your favorite pastime? Response: My favorite pastime is watching movies. I have always loved watching movies, I would say my favorite type of movies are comedies. Thank you Mr. Neal for all your hard work!

Mackenzie McIntosh Favorite memory from high school? My favorite memory would definitely be Mrs. Lynch's class, honestly this could go for any class of hers I've been in. We always have fun conversations, laugh about anything and everything, and she is just the best. Plans after high school? I plan to attend SIC for Nursing and possibly Forensics Advice for future Seniors. Your senior year is going to go by fast, so join that club, make new friends, visit new places, enjoy your time with your friends. Always enjoy the little things before it's over.
