Galatia Seniors and Senior Parents, I have been in contact with many scholarship donors as I’m working on the digital format for our scholarship award program. If you have received notification that you were a scholarship recipient of any kind, please send me an email (alaunius@galatiak12.org) to make sure that I have that down for the program. I do not want to miss anybody! Thank you.

HEY Galatia High School Staff and Students! We will be missing several of our usual pages in the yearbook BUT I would love to fill those with pictures of students and staff during this pandemic. Please send pictures of every day life that has continued during this time! Hobbies, self-care, cooking, gardening, baking, pets, nature, animal life, projects, whatever it is that you have been doing during this stay at home! Send pictures to mharbin@galatiak12.org! I can't wait to see them!

Reminder: Packet drop off was due yesterday. If you have not done so there is a box in front of the high school for you to put it in. GGS parents, your students belongings can be picked up at the high school. JH/HS students please stop by to clean out your lockers.

Congratulations to Kate Bond on being named the state winner in Swine Production Entrepreneurship. Great job on all of your hard work and being the top in Illinois!

Galatia Students, Parents, and Community: Galatia School District has been discussing many options for graduation during this closure. As we have been telling you, guidance from the state is updated daily and therefore things can change. At this time, no in-person or drive-through graduation ceremony is allowed via directions from the Illinois State Board of Education. We have decided to postpone the original graduation date of May 16th, to a date in June (TBA) in hopes that an in-person graduation ceremony can be held at that time. IF we are not able to hold an in-person graduation at that time, we will be looking into a digital format for graduation. We are very sorry to not be able to give you finalized plans yet. This issue is very important to all of us and we will do everything in our power to make it happen.
As of right now, the school is working on a Scholarship Banquet video to release electronically mid-late May. Thank you.

Attention Jr High/High School parents and students: Please don't forget to call in advance to request the next remote learning packet. If you call after working hours please leave us a voicemail.

As many of you know we lost one of our own, Tyler Anderson, last night in a car accident. Tyler was a junior at Galatia High School. He was an active member of FFA and Trapcats. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time. This news comes as a huge shock to everyone. Galatia School District wants to make sure to provide our students with resources as they are grieving this loss. First, there will be counselors available by phone through WOVSED. To reach one of these counselors, any student can call 618-8 41-8282 Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:00AM-3:30 PM. If you need to reach a counselor after hours, call Saline County dispatch at 618-252-8661, and tell them you need to talk to a counselor. Second, Illinois has set up a hotline during this COVID-19 pandemic called Call 4 Calm. Students can text the word “TALK” to 552020 and a counselor will call them. Lastly, Galatia staff understands that many students prefer to talk to someone they know and trust during times like these. Please reach out to a trusted staff member if you need to talk.

Tune in tomorrow morning at 8am and listen to one of our very own Bearcat Senior Aj Hankins & GHS Nick Triplett as they talk local sports! You won't be disappointed!

Class of 2020 Parents/Guardians: Ms. Harbin will be sending senior pictures to the newspaper on Tuesday, April 28th. If you have not sent anything in, please do so at mharbin@galatiak12.org. I really do not want to leave anyone out. Also, Ms. Harbin will be making a slideshow for YouTube and hopefully the graduation ceremony later this summer. Please send in your baby, middle school, and any group pics you may have.

Ms. Harbin's assignments are online and use Internet programs. If you cannot use the internet for any reason, please pick up an alternate assignment at the high school. Email me at mharbin@galatiak12.org with any questions.
