State of Illinois health requirements per grade for upcoming school year..

JH Softball tryout information was texted a couple weeks ago to parents of students who signed up at the end of the school year. If you did not receive that text message or your child did not sign up, tryouts will be tomorrow (Thursday) from 3:00-5:00 at the high school softball field for incoming 5th-8th grade girls. If your child is unable to attend and still wants to tryout please reach out to coach David Jordan at 1-618-841-1284.

Below are important dates for the beginning of the school year. Please note, these dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances. Galatia schools will communicate any changes as soon as information becomes available. We plan to have the full calendar ready by the end of the month. July 31 - August 8: Online School Registration Open August 8: In-person School Registration, 12:00pm-7:00pm, HS Cafeteria August 14-15: Teacher Inservice - No Student Attendance August 15: Open House, 5:00pm-6:00pm August 16: Half Day Attendance for Students August 17-25: 2:00 Dismissal for Students September 4: Labor Day - No School September 13: 2:00 Dismissal for Students

Parents, at the June board of education meeting, the board decided there would be no student registration fees for the 2023-2024 school year. Soon we will be opening up online registration, and announcing the day and time for in-person registration at the high school. Enjoy the rest of the summer,

4-5th summer school painting the park (cont)

The 4-5th grade summer school took on a service project this week under the leadership of Mr Payne and Mrs. Wilson. They spent 3 days repainting the equipment at the park! It looks so great! Well done everyone! Here are some before and after pictures.

Today 2-3rd grade made coffee filter art flowers to be arranged in a bouquet for someone special to our school. We also walked to the Galatia Public Library for a story and two crafts. Everyone received a FREE book and was able to check out books using their new library cards. The librarians were so wonderful and we thank them so much for showing us all of the resources the library has to offer!

Air Evac will be at the grade school tomorrow. Please do not be alarmed when you see them. They are coming to talk to the kids at summer school.

K-1 had some special visitors today. Harrisburg Police Chief Officer Moore, Officer Bergman, and the K-9 came to teach our kids how the police and the K-9 keep us safe. They even showed the kids some demonstrations of what the dog can do. They showed how he could track, how he helps the cops on the job, and that he likes to have fun too. All of the kids really enjoyed. Thank you officers for coming.

2-3rd grade focused on seeds and flowers today! Our SEL focus was on the book "Bad Seed" and we made puppets to enjoy. Then, we used magnifying glasses to look inside flowers and dissected one to look at the insides while learning about all the different parts. We finished off the morning by making "dirt cups" with gummy worms for a snack.

What an amazing day in summer school! K-2 visited Seeking Sensory where we had a wonderful time exploring all the fun sensory activities!

2-5th Summer School Saline Creek Pioneer Village & Museum (cont)

2nd-5th grade Summer School toured the Saline Creek Pioneer Village & Museum today. The new Native American petroglyph exhibit was incredible! It's hard to believe it's 1,000 years old and was taken from a cave not far from here. There were so many pieces of history that started some amazing conversations. We walked inside and explored the original Poor House, the one room school house, Post Office/Country Store, jail, Blockhouse, cabins and a Quaker Church. Mr DeNeal was a wonderful guide and we thank him so much for taking the time to visit and lead us through history! (Photos continued in a 2nd post)

Don't forget! Monday is a holiday and Summer School will not be in session. We will resume classes Tuesday-Friday.

4-5th grade Summer School engineered containers to protect an egg from a HUGE drop! Two came out unharmed! the students not present today will drop theirs next time they come, so stay tuned!
