Three Galatia seniors attended the Salute to Illinois Scholars program at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham today. Salute to Illinois Scholars recognizes the academic achievement of students in the southern region of Illinois. The seniors who attended today’s event are AJ Hankins, Hannah Jackson and Nihl Morton.

For any sophomores who would like to order a class ring, Balfour will be here next Wednesday, Oct 16th to take orders. Forms were given to sophomores but any student can pick up a form on the office ledge and place an order.

Volleyball bus departure for tonight’s game has been moved up to 4:15-4:20 from the HS.

This afternoon (2/5/19) Nick Triplett signed a full ride scholarship to SIC to compete on the SIC speech team for 2019-20 and 2020-21! NIck will be a valuable addition to a team that regularly receives and expects national success.
Joining Nick in the picture are his parents Steve and Angela, myself, Miranda Cain Eldorado HS speech coach, and head forensics coach Paul Cummins.

Jr High Volleyball tryouts for girls in grades 5-8 will be held January 14, 15 & 16 with a mandatory player/parent meeting on January 17. Official practice will begin the following week. Physicals and consent forms must be on file or turned in on or before the first official practice. More information will be sent home with students by the end of the week.

Some of the student report cards were distributed today. We have found that there was an error in the semester grade on some of the reports. We are working with the company to fix the error and I will call everyone once the new grade cards are passed out.

Jr High Boys basketball practice for tonight, 12/19, is cancelled.

The Galatia FFA will be holding a small lights parade in Galatia tonight starting at 6:30. They will start at the high school and take the Old Settlers Days parade route to Russell's side parking lot where they will hand out treats to the kids until 7:30. If anyone is interested in joining the parade with a lighted street legal vehicle, you may join them at the high school at 6:30.

The bus for today's Jr. High Basketball game @ Gallatin Co. will leave the GS @ 5:00. JV players need to wear their uniforms under their clothes.

JH girls basketball practice for today will be from 4:30-6:00.

Monday, December 17th, dress up in your Christmas/holiday colors pajamas at the JH/HS building.

Congratulations to the High School JV and Varsity Scholar Bowl teams. They had a double header against Carrier Mills today and won all four matches. The JV are now 4-2 in conference and Varsity is 3-3 in conference. Great job to both teams!

Galatia High School senior Nick Triplett broadcasted the Tuesday 12/11 Galatia basketball game at Norris City. Nick works at WEBQ Harrisburg and does some radio games. Tuesday night was his first shot at being the main play by play guy. We are very proud of Nick and I know he has a very bright future. Maybe the next Jack Buck!!

Announcement: There is a change in the lunch menu for both buildings. Today for lunch we will be serving our Thanksgiving meal. It will be turkey and gravy, whipped potatoes, garden salad, and dinner roll.

Mrs. Campbell's 5th grade science and social studies classes studied the history of flight for national aviation month. We ended today using what we learned about center of gravity, drag, thrust, and lift with a paper airplane distance challenge. Students had to use their knowledge to create and test their airplanes. Great job students!

Announcement from Brooke Carlton, PTO President: The Paragon Video Game Trailer will be at the school Monday, November 19th. This is for the students who sold more than 11 items in the Paragon Fundraiser. This will be the only day and time the Video Game Trailer will be at the school.

Attention Bearcat fans who purchased a 50/50 raffle ticket: all 100 tickets have been sold!! The winning ticket will be drawn & the winner will be announced during Red & White Night on Friday, 11/16 after the Kitty Kat performance. Thank you to those who sold & purchased tickets!

Monday, November 12 at the Grade School in honor of Veteran's Day we are asking students & staff to wear red, white, & blue. We have a button badge for each student to write the name of a veteran they wish to honor and wear it for the day. They can honor any veteran, living or deceased.

Congratulations to the Galatia FFA on a good finish in the Section 25 FFA Job Interview Contest. The varsity team finished 3rd in the section with Kate Bond placing 4th and Haylee Brown 10th as individuals and Tyler Anderson placed 1st in the jv contest. Great job team!

Hey Galatia Parents please make sure you are never driving around a bus when they are parked for drop off or pick-up at either school. At the grade school do not use the road on the East side of the school where the buses park in the morning or close to the end of the day. Grade School Parents should always drop off your kids at the front south entrance of the grade school across from the community center.
Also, for each of the school buildings please make sure you do not speed in the parking lots. Our students are very important to us and we want to make sure they are safe.

PTO field trip for 1st-3rd grades is tomorrow. Please have your child wear tennis shoes and bring a sack lunch.

Harrisburg Community Health Dentists are coming again this year on November 28 & 29th to complete dental exams and cleanings. Any student can participate in this program. Remember dental exams are required by May for grades Kindergarten, second, and sixth grades. Contact your school nurse Melinda Teal for consent forms if you are interested in this program.

Check out this awesome mini-golf hole built by Galatia FFA members! This is a part of the Section 25 FFA Barn Golf Open to raise money for the Illinois FFA Foundation, where each school in Section 25 made a course. Pictured are Galatia FFA members Courtney Pribble, Alison Riddle, Grace Imhoff, and Tyler Anderson, who participated in the event. Also pictured is the IL State FFA officer team playing and stopping for a quick photo op with Wyatt Arnold.

Congratulations to the Galatia FFA Soil Judging team for placing first out of 13 schools in Section 25. Team members consisted of Jaedyn Beers, Kate Bond, Haylee Brown, Tyler Anderson, and Maddie Grubbs. Kate was also first place individual in the contest.
Also, congratulations to the Galatia FFA tractor driving team of Casey Pribble and Trevor Hale on their 2nd place finish in the Section 25 FFA Tractor Driving Contest.

Jr. High girls basketball practice on Monday, Oct 8 is from 4:00-6:00, the boys will now practice from 6:00 - 8:00. Girls not attending the NSH tournament will practice with Coach Clayton at the HS on Wed (10/10), Thu (10/11) & Fri (10/12) from 3:00-4:30.

On October 22 our Lady Cats will begin HS Volleyball regional action @ NCOE vs. Crab Orchard @ 6:00. The winner will advance to play NCOE on October 23 @ 5:30. The championship game will be October 25 @ 6:00. Sectionals will be played @ Thompsonville October 29 & 31.
